What is free, and what is a subscription

Formicaria is one application with three engines in it. The application is free. Two of the engines are sold as separate monthly subscriptions, and you can take either one, both, or neither.

The free app
Installing Formicaria gives you COLONY, your automated assistants, and everything around them. The free product lets you:
- Create and administer projects
- Manage installation settings, input roots and service tokens
- View the colony
- Install, configure, start and stop modules
- Connect and test a model provider
- Run missions, objectives and conversations
- Execute shell and filesystem tooling
- Host the controller signing identity and verify device envelopes
- Administer mound configuration

FORAGER
FORAGER is sold as an allowance of imported data per month, counted in GiB. It is the combined size of what you import in the month that counts. It is not a limit on any single import, and it is not storage space. A subscription adds:
- Admit a batch for processing
- Review, resolve and reconcile existing knowledge
The FORAGER engine ships inside the Windows and Linux downloads, so there is nothing separate to install. See What FORAGER is.
MICROMOUND
MICROMOUND is sold per integration slot: one slot for each device you connect, bought one at a time. A subscription adds:
- Allocate a purchased integration slot
- Dispatch a mission to a mound
- Issue a charter to a mound
- Author mound configuration and previews

They do not depend on each other
FORAGER and MICROMOUND each need only the free app, and neither one requires the other. FORAGER in particular works with no AI model set up at all.
AI usage is not part of any plan
No Formicaria product includes or bills for AI model usage. Local models run on your own machine, and a cloud model runs on your own account with that provider.
Status
Subscriptions are not open yet. The free app is available today from the release channel. Prices and plan terms will be published when subscriptions open.
